Job Summary Position Title: Heavy Equipment Operator Department: Department of Transportation Reports to: Kingfisher County Division: 4 FLSA Status: Non-exempt Location: 17407 US HWY 891, Kingfisher Basic Purpose: Positions in this job family are responsible for operating power equipment and performing related tasks in the maintenance and repair of highways.

Compensation: Level I - $40,600.00, Level II - $47,100.00.

Responsibilities

Operates equipment or heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.

Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.

Repairs failures in the roadway shoulders or bridge decks.

Repairs and/or replaces signs, posts, guardrails and fences.

Provides traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.

Applies herbicide to highway right-of-ways to control weeds and other unwanted vegetation.

Remove debris including tires, animal carcass, spilled items and other obstacles.

Qualifications

Level I: No education or experience required.

Level II: One year of experience in operating heavy equipment.

Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of power equipment or heavy machinery.

Manual labor skills; ability to maintain and operate power equipment; ability to follow instructions.

Valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of employment; some agencies require a class A or B CDL with endorsements.

Commercial driver's license class A required for ODOT or Turnpike Authority positions within 5 months.

CDL tank vehicle endorsement for ODOT employees.

Pass drug test prior to appointment.

Willingness to perform job-related travel, work hours outside regular shifts during emergencies, and be reachable for on-call duty.

Physical requirements: stand, walk, reach, sit, manipulate tools, climb, and stoop; lift 80 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception.
