Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate a 29‑ton P&H Static Step‑less overhead bucket crane (cab controlled) to lift, move, and position loads of petroleum coke, maintaining proper pit & pad storage and loading coke from pit to grizzly hopper using an 18 yd clamshell bucket.

Participate as trained and instructed in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cranes, buckets, and related equipment.

May be assigned to general duties in all areas of terminal operations.

Maintain good and open communication with Driller‑Operator, Supervision, and Maintenance Personnel via radio and other proper means.

Operate, monitor, and maintain coke‑cutting equipment within the petroleum coke handling facility.

Have experience with foCoke cutting or drilling operations.

Follow proper safety rules and operating procedures to support zero‑tolerance safety objectives.

Perform proper decoking techniques by following all associated procedures while paying close attention to hot spots and allowing for extra quenching where needed.

Work with the operator to un‑head and re‑head the coke drums, as well as perform the final sweep of the coke drum.

Be capable of operating under fresh air with an SCBA or facemask breathing apparatus.

Inspect equipment prior to and post operating and report any maintenance needs; conduct frequent audits on the drum‑cutting equipment.

Perform basic troubleshooting of petroleum coke cutting equipment.

Assist other petroleum coke cutting personnel with cleaning operations as required.

Perform housekeeping duties of the petroleum coke cutting area.

Maintain and lubricate the “cutting deck” petroleum coke cutting equipment.

Operate heavy equipment to gouge out, level, and distribute petroleum coke from inbound conveyors and storage to outbound conveyors in a safe and efficient manner.

Operate D‑9 and D10 Dozers with a concave blade to gouge out, level, and distribute petroleum coke from conveyor to storage – then from storage to re‑claimer, safely and efficiently.

Operate a dozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to the specified level, using the dozer both day and night to push material to the dozer trap for loading into vessels.

Maintain dozers, skid steers, forklifts, track hoes, backhoes, and wheel loaders by performing preventive maintenance (lubricating, cleaning, adding gear lubricants, changing filters) and documenting all activity.

Have experience operating an excavator, forklift, telehandler, skid steer, and man lift; be capable of becoming a certified operator on each piece of equipment.

Train on remote‑controlled ship loaders by engaging push buttons on the remote to distribute coke according to the stowage plan and ships chief mate instructions. Ensure satisfactory loading of the vessel and watch for safety of the ship loader during operation.

Ensure that work performed is done properly and safely.

Operators will train and operate all terminal equipment and perform the duties and responsibilities of the terminal’s Equipment Operator/Maintenance positions such as Dozer, Driller and cutting, Overhead Crane, skid steers, Excavator, Telehandler, Man Lift, Front End Loader, and Ship Loading Operations for progression.

Position Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.

Prior experience as a heavy equipment operator is preferred, but we will train all qualified applicants.

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment for the assigned tasks and report damaged protective equipment and unsafe conditions to the Terminal Supervisor.

Be able to work at different work locations when needed.

Perform housekeeping and general maintenance as required.

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Effectively communicate verbally.

Work shift schedule as assigned and overtime with little to no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed for operational needs.

Maintain regular work attendance.

Perform shift work, rotating day/night, if required.

Be subject to the on‑call schedule and respond to emergency call‑outs as scheduled.

Certifications, Licenses, etc.

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a satisfactory driving record to the company and its insurers; must be willing to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment.

Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones (background checks by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, including a Transportation Workers Identification Card).

Must pass a Drug and Alcohol test along with a Hair follicle test.

Must possess safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations.

Must complete/pass DISA/ISTC background check and testing for entrance into refinery.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan's rules and policies.

Be willing and able to work as part of a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.

Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach, etc. for extended periods of time.

Handle evolving conditions.

Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.

Position involves outside work and adverse weather conditions may apply.

Work in dusty environment.

Wear FRC clothing.

Lift 70 pounds.

Handle large tools, climb on and off equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and have no fear of heights.

Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, vibration; risk of electrical shock and loud noise levels.

Be self‑motivated and a self‑starter.
