Director of Youth Ministry
Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church is looking for an energetic and faith‑filled Director of Youth Ministry. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive youth ministry program for middle and high school students at Our Lady of Hope. He/she is to foster spiritual growth, deepen faith formation, and engage youth in parish life through programs, retreats, and leadership development. The Director collaborates with the clergy, parish and school staff, and volunteers to ensure a dynamic and engaging ministry.
Location: Sterling, VA.
Areas of Responsibility
Develop and coordinate a program which will provide weekly social, educational, spiritual, and service opportunities for high‑school aged students.
Work with the parish and school staff to conduct monthly, less‑formal activities and experiences which supplement the formal religious education program for middle school aged students.
Find creative methods of incorporating the young people of the parish and their families into all aspects and programs of the parish.
Coordinate special events, trips, and service projects (e.g., WorkCamp, Diocesan BASH and RALLY, parish outreach initiatives) as well as fundraising opportunities for the program.
Parish Relationships
The Director reports directly to the Pastor.
As a member of the parish staff, the Director participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and is present at all youth ministry activities of the parish.
The Director acts as the official liaison between the parish and the Diocese of Arlington Office of Youth Ministry, keeping the diocesan policies in reference to youth ministry activities and making diocesan youth programs available to the parish. The Director is willing to work closely with the other youth ministers in the deanery.
The Director informs parents about parish and diocesan youth activities and works with the parish office to advertise youth ministry events.
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong commitment to Church teachings.
Bachelor's degree in theology, catechetics, or related field preferred.
Strong leadership, organizational, and pastoral skills.
Minimum three years of experience engaging youth in faith formation and discipleship preferred.
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.
Hours 20 hrs/week part‑time with the possibility of growth to a full‑time position.
