Virtualization Administrator

Summary:
As a Virtualization Administrator, you will play a key role in providing support in managing and maintaining the virtualized IT infrastructure to ensure its stability, performance, and security for the customer’s program. The role involves oversight of the on‑prem hardware infrastructure (servers and storage), the on‑prem hypervisor environment (VMware, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure.
Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the customer’s virtualized IT infrastructure to ensure its stability, performance, and security.
Administer both on‑prem and cloud hosted environments, resolving virtualization‑related issues, and supporting agency IT initiatives.
Oversee the on‑prem hardware infrastructure (servers and storage), the on‑prem hypervisor environment (VMware, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure.
Contribute to the automation of infrastructure deployment and the integration of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI/CD pipelines.
Provide technical support for existing and emerging virtualization technologies and assist with planning and execution of related technology projects and initiatives.
Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs), virtual infrastructure, and physical infrastructure (including rack mounting and hardware configuration).
Monitor the performance of virtual environments and optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient operation.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security.
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual environments.
Ensure the security of virtual environments by applying patches, updates, and mandatory/recommended security configurations.
Maintain detailed documentation of virtualization configurations, procedures, and policies.
Work closely with other IT teams to support virtualization needs and integrate virtual solutions with other systems.
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance issued by the National Credit Union Administration.
United States citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to obtain this type of security clearance.
3+ years of professional experience in virtualization administration with focus on VMware, Hyper‑V, and other similar technologies.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent professional experience.
Experience managing and troubleshooting VMware vSphere environments.
Experience supporting virtualization infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
Experience overseeing on‑prem hardware infrastructure (servers and storage), the on‑prem hypervisor environment (VMware, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure.
Experience overseeing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs), virtual infrastructure, and physical infrastructure (including rack mounting and hardware configuration).
Experience monitoring the performance of virtual environments and optimizing resource allocation to ensure efficient operation.
Experience diagnosing and resolving issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security.
Experience with the automation of infrastructure deployment and the integration of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with the automation of IT administration and server provisioning using tools such as Azure, Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, Azure CLI.
Experience with PowerShell and VMware PowerCLI.
Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform.
Experience integrating infrastructure management tools with APIs to enable deployment of Infrastructure as Code integrated into CI/CD deployment pipelines.
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate certification preferred.
Will require travel as needed to customer locations for installing and maintaining physical equipment; minimal travel anticipated, majority of support will be remote.
