Keene State College’s Department of Campus Safety is seeking reliable candidates to serve as part‑time dispatchers in the Campus Safety communications center. The communication center operates 24 hours, seven days a week, and is staffed through various shift assignments to include weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays. Many shifts are scheduled for set hours; however, some flexibility may be available. These dispatcher positions are part‑time and do not provide benefits.

The dispatcher will serve as the primary point of contact and preferred communication resource when addressing campus incidents. This position provides an opportunity for individuals interested in a career in public safety, or who enjoy working and interacting with the public.

The dispatcher must maintain a calm and professional demeanor during an emergency, contact police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency personnel when needed, and utilize access control technologies to secure College buildings. They will also provide emergency notifications, review CCTV, and answer radio calls from officers. Note: this is not a designated 911 call center, but the dispatcher may be the first point of contact with the public during an emergency.

Responsibilities

Answer in‑person questions at the dispatch window, telephone, switchboard, and electronic inquiries or requests for services.

Answer radio calls from officers in the field and enter calls for service in the Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, using the college’s student and employee database.

Contact emergency services, community directors, and other campus partners by telephone.

Answer calls received on blue‑light emergency phones.

Monitor access control, alarm, and closed‑circuit television monitoring equipment, review CCTV to assist officers on patrol, issue replacement OWL card identification, and maintain accountability of officers on calls.

Answer questions related to parking and events occurring on campus.

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.

Computer proficient with ability to learn various computer applications.

Effective multi‑tasking skills.

Ability to interact verbally and electronically via telephone, email, and two‑way radio.

Ability to assess situations and determine the appropriate response.

Must successfully pass a background review, including criminal history and driving history.

Required Licenses & Certifications

Valid driver's license.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Typing speed of ~40 words per minute.

Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.

Attention to detail.

Multitasking skills.

Teamwork.

Strong organizational skills.

Logical thinking and quick assessment of situations.

Good decision‑making.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Ability to keep confidential information confidential.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior dispatching experience (helpful but not required).

Experience in customer service or the security field (helpful but not required).

Higher education experience.
