911 Dispatcher – Full-Time – Courthouse Location This role is paid between $23.68/hr and $35.52/hr. The closing date for applications is December 23, 2025, or upon receipt of the first 50 applications.

Job Summary Under general supervision, the 911 Dispatcher is responsible for simultaneously operating a multi‑channel radio console and a multi‑line telephone while maintaining computer assisted dispatch (CAD) systems and other computer applications. A 911 Dispatcher works within an emergency communication center/public safety answering point and dispatches fire, law, and medical emergencies to responding agencies.

Responsibilities

Operate the 911 emergency answering phone system efficiently.

Create and maintain incidents in CAD for all incoming calls.

Perform on‑call notifications, maintain the highway log, and monitor entrance points and alarm systems.

Operate the CAD and radio system to provide prompt dispatching of emergency units.

Query the system for warrants, VINs, and other necessary data.

Notify other departments and agencies while maintaining close contact and communications.

Input, update, request, transmit, and query information from a variety of sources to maintain accurate records.

Disseminate information on vehicles, driver licenses, criminal history, weapons, boats, and other articles via local, state, and national computer networks.

Monitor TTYs, forward them to proper authorities, maintain accurate outgoing TTY log, and input fatal reports as needed.

Monitor all DOT traffic cameras and assist law enforcement agencies by reporting site pictures for information dissemination.

Learn the freeway system thoroughly; 90 % of all incoming calls will be answered within 10 seconds, priority 1 incidents dispatched within 90 seconds (Stack to Dispatch Time).

Login to all programs daily and send weekly Everbridge test messages.

Monitor duress alarms for the courthouse, safety building, institutions, and all county buildings with alarm systems.

Acknowledge and dispatch law enforcement to alarms; notify deputies of incoming alarms under all circumstances.

Disseminate emergency notification messages via Everbridge and make notifications to appropriate command staff, DA supervisors, and master control.

Receive NAWAS, state and federal defense calls and relay information to appropriate city, county, and suburban agency.

Work in a high‑tempo, noisy environment while under duress and maintain resilience throughout the shift.

Perform dispatch‑assisted bystander CPR when needed; monitor garage access to SB, participate in job shadowing and training, and maintain situational awareness and business acumen.

Perform other duties as assigned by OEM Director, OEM Deputy Director, and/or 911 Division Director.

Minimum Requirements

Wisconsin driver’s license.

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Current Wisconsin resident at time of application.

At least one (1) year of experience with high‑intensity radio and/or multi‑line phone system.

Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.

Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).

Availability to work on holidays and weekends; schedule will include weekends and holidays.

All appointees must successfully complete the Transaction Information Management Enforcement (TIME) system training and Association of Public Safety (APCO PST) certification within six (6) months of hire date. Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance must be achieved within sixty (60) days of hire date.

Preferred Experience

Technical training in police, fire, and EMS dispatching and radio communications.

Experience receiving and/or resolving complaints, problem solving, or substantial responsibility for receiving and/or giving information.

Experience in receiving calls for emergency service or police/fire/EMS dispatching and radio communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment.

Skill in prioritizing and performing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Oral and written communication skills; math skills; skill in data entry.

Ability to learn the boundaries of Milwaukee County and its freeway system, including highway designations, boundaries, and landmarks.

Clear speaking and understanding of English.

Ability to receive and transmit emergency calls accurately.

Ability to operate radio network and phones.

Ability to obtain critical information; to learn abstract codes needed to query computers via terminals.

Ability to work in confined areas for extended periods of time.

Ability to clearly hear incoming calls and radio responses.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to read and interpret multiple computer screens.

Ability to work in a high tempo and noisy environment while under stress for the duration of the shift.

Disciplined and capable of maintaining effective working relationships with staff and public.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lb when needed.
