Key Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for leading and maintaining the official 2D plant layout for multiple equipment and manufacturing activities. The position requires extensive onsite engagement, strong coordination with suppliers, and the ability to accurately translate field conditions and vendor-provided information into a consolidated layout of record. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with deep experience in manufacturing layout development and conveyor system design.
Spend the majority of time supporting projects in the Detroit area, with extended onsite assignments at manufacturing plant locations as required
The majority of this individuals’ time will be spent in the Detroit area, long stretches will be onsite in Belvidere, IL and Toledo, OH at the plant work site
Maintain and manage the layout of record by integrating supplier-provided drawings and issuing weekly layout releases
Ensure timely, accurate, and well-organized submission of all AutoCAD drawings from suppliers on the designated data-sharing platform
Develop and update 2D AutoCAD drawings for conveyors, carriers, and related equipment
Create detailed layout studies including cross-sections, station layouts, interference checks, chording studies, and envelope studies
Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and internal engineering teams to resolve layout conflicts and support program execution
Report directly to the Engineering Program Manager
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum of 10 years of AutoCAD design experience in automotive or industrial manufacturing environments
In-depth knowledge of conveyor layouts systems, and design principles
General understanding of various conveyor types and their associated components
Strong ability to perform field measurements, interpret site conditions, and convert technical inputs into accurate layouts
