Mechanical Engineering Lead – Conveyor Systems

Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary technical authority for all mechanical conveyor system discussions, coordination, and issue resolution
The majority of this individual's time will be spent in the Detroit area, long stretches will be onsite in Belvidere, IL and Toledo, OH at the plant work site
Lead conveyor-related activities across assembly, paint, and body shop manufacturing areas
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a wide range of conveyor systems, including Power & Free, overhead, inverted, EMS, roller, friction drive, skillet, pallet systems, and air-based drip systems
Perform and review engineering studies including cording studies, chain pull calculations, drive studies, vertical curve analysis, and cycle time evaluations
Review, evaluate, and approve contractor and supplier design drawings to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
Ensure all designs align with detailed engineering requirements and established industry installation standards
Collaborate closely with project management and cross‑functional engineering teams to support program execution
Maintain compliance with applicable industry safety, fire protection, and ventilation requirements
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum of 15 years of experience supporting automotive or industrial manufacturing projects
At least 10 years of hands‑on experience with conveyor system installation, design, and implementation
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent demonstrated project experience
Advanced proficiency in 2D AutoCAD for mechanical and conveyor system design
Comprehensive understanding of conveyor engineering standards and industry best practices
Strong working knowledge of applicable safety, fire protection, and ventilation codes and standards
Ability to lead technical reviews, mentor team members, and support structured engineering processes
