Job Summary / Purpose Member of a rotating shift working under the direction of a Plant Supervisor. Responsible for operating power‑plant equipment, performing routine operator rounds, lubrication, and monitoring water chemistry. Safely start, stop, isolate, and restore equipment following LOTO procedures while maintaining high safety, reliability, efficiency and cost standards. Progress through the Operational Skills Development Plan towards roles such as Operations Technician, Plant Technician (Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical), or Plant Technician (Mechanical).
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Continuously monitor equipment, operate valves and understand plant systems, starting and stopping unit equipment.
Isolate and restore equipment for maintenance following LOTO procedures and monitor boiler water chemistry.
Use mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls and regulating devices in generating plants.
Troubleshoot, identify and repair plant equipment, performing preventative maintenance tasks.
Apply knowledge of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls.
Comply with environmental rules, regulations, safety policies, practices and procedures.
Participate in the Monthly Safety Meeting and may serve on the Safety Committee or Awareness Team.
Perform preventative maintenance activities, including simple electrical, instrument and mechanical work/inspection and repair.
Interface and communicate with internal and external organizations/customers (dispatchers, directors, contractors, etc.).
During outages or emergent work, step up to Temporary Supervisor or Contract Administrator, managing other employees or contractors and overseeing quality, cost and schedule.
Work rotating shifts and overtime when required by shift coverage needs.
Be willing and able to work under normal and unusual power‑plant conditions.
Minimum Requirements Minimum Education
High school diploma
Desired Education
Process Technology/Instrumentation college degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum Experience 0–2 years of experience in operations or a similar field, or entry level with a background in Process Technology or Instrumentation.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls and regulating devices used in steam electric plants.
Principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls.
Ability to lift 100 lb and carry 50 lb.
Ability to climb scaffolds, stairs and ladders.
Team‑oriented and self‑motivated, with initiative to work independently and provide timely, concise feedback.
Winning attitude to achieve departmental, plant and corporate goals.
Basic computer knowledge for Entergy Fossil Applications Time and Labor and AIMM (Maintenance Management System).
Desired Knowledge and Skills
Power plant and/or maintenance experience.
Equipment operation experience.
Certificates, Licenses, etc.
Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
