Position Description This entry‑level terminal operator position involves loading and unloading tank trucks, ships and barges; recording product temperature and storage levels; operating valves, pumps, and tank gear; assisting with product transfer and maintenance; and serving on the Emergency Response Team. All work is performed in strict accordance with environmental, health and safety policies, operating procedures, and foreman instructions.

Business Unit: Terminals Kinder Morgan stores and handles renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products, with approximately 151 million barrels of liquid storage capacity and about 59 million tons of dry‑bulk material handled annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Load and unload tank trucks, ships and barges.

Record product temperature and levels in storage tanks.

Climb tank stairs, operate valves and pumps, gauge tanks.

Assist operations with product transfer alignments including piping, pumps and valves.

Perform or assist with preventive and regular maintenance duties.

Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Conduct all work in accordance with environmental, health and safety policies, operating procedures, and foreman directions.

Maintain safety and Hazmat training at the facility.

Position Requirements Education

Two‑ or four‑year degree (any discipline) from an accredited college or university, OR

Experience/knowledge meeting one of the following criteria:

Honorable discharge from the U.S. military (any branch).

Three years of terminal operations or maintenance experience.

Five years of general industry experience (e.g., manufacturing, steel mill, refinery, petrochemical, pipeline, tank, or manifold work) or relevant millwright, welding, or electrical experience.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Completion of safety training/certification required by customers and Kinder Morgan.

Background checks and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) for foreign trade zone access.

Successful completion of a drug screen and background check before employment.

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities

Pass respirator fit test and complete safety and Hazmat training at the facility.

Proficient in reading work orders and basic math.

Ability to work with chemicals, acids and petroleum products while wearing respiratory protection.

Skill with wrenches, pipe wrenches, and other tools; able to turn and tighten nuts and bolts.

Capable of lifting or moving up to 50 pounds; able to work on docks and at high elevations.

Effective verbal communication with all management levels.

Willingness to work outdoors, overtime, weekends, holidays, and on‑call duties.

Strong teamwork, prioritization, attention to detail, and adherence to work rules.

Ability to carry a company‑issued cell phone/radio and be on‑call after regular hours, including in dark hours.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Exposed to adverse outdoor weather, heights over five feet, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.

Regular standing, walking, climbing, and extended periods of work.

Regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Previous chemical, refining, or terminal experience.
