Business Unit: Terminals Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
Primary Purpose Control various hazardous liquid product movements to/from pipelines, vessels, barges, and tanks internally and externally using automated systems. Schedule and process product movements through computer database. Monitor rates, pressures, and answer phone calls while instructing field operators on movements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate pipeline facilities from the control center.
Operate multiple pipelines simultaneously.
Coordinate safe and efficient transportation of refined petroleum products and specialty chemicals.
Recognize abnormal operations and react accordingly within a short period.
Monitor and control pipeline operations through SCADA system.
Detect and respond to abnormal pipeline conditions.
Communicate emergency conditions quickly and calmly.
Determine accurate time of pipeline events (pumping, deliveries, strips, etc.) by reviewing batch listings and schedules.
Update pipeline schedulers throughout shift duration.
Communicate critical information to field operators.
Receive and respond to calls/emails from customers.
Schedule barge, vessel and pipeline nominations.
Train others in operational tasks.
Accurately account for customer inventories.
Work with maintenance, field operations, and contractors for troubleshooting.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Position Requirements
Associate’s Degree, Certification in Process Control, or 3 years equivalent work experience.
Four‑year degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university (highly desirable).
Honorable discharge from U.S. military, any branch (highly desirable).
Experience / Specific Knowledge
Three years terminal operations/maintenance experience (highly desirable).
Five years of general industry experience (highly desirable).
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Must pass Operation Qualification test after training.
Must clear a drug screen and complete a background check before employment.
Competencies, Skills, & Abilities
Competent, courteous, accurate, and thorough in dealing with external and internal customers.
Acknowledge and react to colors on color graphic displays on a computer control system.
Acknowledge and react to audible instructions, alarms, or other forms of communication.
Multi‑task with confidence and composure in several different situations simultaneously.
Typing, calculator, and mathematical skills; good communication skills; problem‑recognition and problem‑solving skills; general accounting or bookkeeping experience a plus.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with PC software (Microsoft Word, Excel, databases).
Work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus on attention to detail, and follow work rules.
Communicate effectively via radio, telephone, and other forms of communication.
Proven ability to take initiative, work highly independently, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Will be on‑call and must respond to call‑outs during and after regular business and non‑working hours, including after dark hours as dictated by operations.
Willing to work overtime with little or no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc., as required by operations.
Physical / Working Conditions
Mostly indoors with short field walk‑around to monitor equipment status.
Must be able to work a 12‑hour rotating shift.
Daily commute should not exceed one hour each direction.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
This position may perform other duties as assigned.
