Road Maintenance Technician II – $2.5K Sign On Bonus Join the Arapahoe County team as a Road Maintenance Technician II. The County is offering a $2,500 signing incentive for new employees hired into this position.

Job Overview Perform a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled highway and street maintenance duties, including resurfacing county gravel roads, asphalt paving and maintenance, patching operations, hauling materials, installing culverts, cleaning ditches, and snowplow duty.

Key Responsibilities

Operate equipment such as highway mower, mini excavator, large asphalt roller, street sweeper, small front‑end loader, class “A” CDL vehicles, semi tractor trailer, asphalt paver screed, skid‑steer attachments, soil compactor, paint gun for roadway painting, and sign‑making printer.

Use additional equipment including skid‑steer, tandem axle dump truck, asphalt patch truck, asphalt patch roller, forklift, plate tamper, asphalt slab saw, hand mower, woodchipper, thermal applicator, and follow/chase truck.

Perform snow removal, load and spread de‑icing material, and work on‑call for winter storms (12‑hour shifts may be required).

Act as a certified flagger and traffic‑control operator in construction zones.

Conduct manual labor with hand tools (shovels, picks, rakes, chain saws, axes, drill, post‑hole diggers, jack hammer up to 90 lb, weed control, trash pickup).

Train on and operate higher‑level equipment under supervision and when operational needs dictate.

Maintain equipment: daily pre/post inspections, fluid levels, air pressure, cleanliness, and CDL inspections per federal standards.

Train Road Maintenance Technicians I on proper use of RMT II equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements

High school graduation or GED equivalent.

Minimum 1 year as a Road Maintenance Technician I or equivalent construction/roadway maintenance work; additional experience preferred.

Knowledge of equipment operation, road construction methods, materials, safety rules, and regulations.

Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Valid Colorado CDL Class “B” driver’s license with tanker endorsement preferred; ability to obtain if not currently held.

Pre‑employment testing: motor‑vehicle check, background check, physical capability examination, and drug screen.

Compensation Anticipated hourly range: $27.09 – $31.16 for RMT II, USD $25.89 – $38.84 for RMT III, depending on qualifications and experience.
