To increase capacity and keep pace with the growing consumer demand for the products, General Mills is making a significant investment to expand capacity for our beloved Fruit brands (Gusher and Fruit by the Foot). Maintenance Technician – Fruit by the Foot and Gushers – Geneva, IL As part of our manufacturing group, you will be responsible for preventative and reactive maintenance of processing and packaging equipment and for providing technical support to improve and optimize our manufacturing operations and processes.

Shift hours

12‑hour shifts (see schedule below)

Day shift:

5:30 am – 6:00 pm

Night shift:

5:30 pm – 6:00 am

Shift schedule:

2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off

Shift rotation (2‑week blocks):

2 weeks on days, then 2 weeks on nights

Schedule perks:

182 scheduled days off per year

Every other weekend is a 3‑day weekend

Schedule/rotation may change based on business need

Ability and willingness to work overtime, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency events

Plant operation is 24 h a day, 7 days a week

Pay

$35.66 per hour up to $39.70 per hour depending on skill set and experience

Maintenance Tech II:

$35.66 per hour

Maintenance Tech III:

$39.70 per hour

Maintenance Tech IV:

$44.59 per hour (internal advancement opportunity)

Maintenance Tech IV Level Completion:

$48.85 per hour (internal advancement opportunity)

Rates include $2.00 per hour for rotation shift differential

About our location The Geneva General Mills facility is located on the western side of the Chicago, Illinois suburbs in Kane County. Geneva is our most recent North America plant network expansion, joining the GMI network in 2024 to produce Betty Crocker desserts and our iconic Gushers and Fruit snacks. What your day will look like

Creating high‑quality foods that are eaten everyday worldwide

Equipment ownership: installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing industrial processing and packaging machinery, tools, and equipment

Identifying and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic issues

Providing technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and modification

Owning and managing DMS (Daily Management System) activities inside and outside of shift DDS (Daily Direction Setting)

Managing work orders, parts requisition, and data entry via Maximo Maintenance Management System

Participating in root‑cause analysis (Why‑Why)

Performing both uptime and downtime preventative maintenance

Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to increase platform performance

Developing leadership and equipment ownership skills through pay‑for‑skills programs

Assisting in training new employees

What you have to offer

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED

Proficient in English

Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance or related industry experience

Mechanical knowledge and understanding of PLC operation, electrical motors, gearbox components, and system troubleshooting—including use of a multimeter and specialized tools

Experience repairing and troubleshooting AC/DC electrical systems, reading schematics, and using electrical testing equipment (highly preferred)

Basic shop equipment experience (mill, lathe, grinder, presses, etc.) – preferred

Experience in a manufacturing/production environment – preferred

Physical requirements

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Must sustain physical tasks for extended periods—including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting over surfaces

Ability to climb and/or work at heights using stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms

Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment (safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, hair/beard net, gloves) as required

Willingness to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment

Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environments

Willingness to work around industrial high‑speed moving machinery

Ability to work with allergens that may be present in a food environment
