Job Summary

Asset Protection/Safety Invest (RFT/MAIN STORE) at Naval Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) protects Navy Exchange assets through investigative strategies and audits controls to prevent and minimize loss potential. Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain surveillance throughout the Navy Exchange facilities to identify and detect suspicious activity contributing to external and internal losses using overt and covert Closed Circuit Television systems. Detect and detain individuals suspected of shoplifting per NEXCOM Loss Prevention/Safety policies. Investigate other suspected incidents of fraud, waste and abuse as directed. Prepare case reports, investigative notes and process evidence in accordance with NEXCOM LPS standards. Conduct audits of cash registers, cash offices, retail inventory controls and service operations as directed by the Loss Prevention/Safety Manager or Supervisor. Conduct investigative research of cash variances and suspicious register transactions using ASPECT Point of Sale Exception Reporting Systems and the In-Store Processor. Conduct accident investigations involving associates and customers in accordance with prescribed NEXCOM guidelines, including report writing and obtaining photographic evidence as necessary. Maintain absolute confidentiality of all investigative research and case information. Maintain physical security of NEX facilities, adhering to site specific opening/closing procedures, key controls, Electronic Article Surveillance policies and intrusion detection system alarm controls and response procedures. Maintain fire/safety controls and precautions by conducting inspections of fire suppression systems, emergency equipment and potential workplace hazards as directed. Provide assistance to management in evacuations of NEX facilities and the implementation of mandated force protection/anti-terrorist measures. Monitor known theft evidence, lost & found programs and access control policies specific to the assigned Navy Exchange facilities. Assist and monitor the destruction and disposal of merchandise "marked to zero" per NEXCOM policies. Testify in criminal and civil court proceedings, including Military Courts Martial and other military command disciplinary proceedings and administrative hearings. Adhere to prescribed work schedules as determined to be in the best interest of the NEX. Maintain a professional image and demeanor in appearance and communications at all times. Maintain the department dress code as prescribed by the Loss Prevention/Safety Manager or Supervisor based on assigned duties. Promote and adhere to NEXCOM LPS programs such as Civil Recovery, Y.E.S. for juvenile shoplifters, Code Adam and the IDEAS Reward Program. Maintain a thorough knowledge of factors contributing to inventory shrinkage, specific high shrink departments and current strategies in place to address shrinkage concerns. Assist in the LPS training and awareness initiatives of NEX associates per direction. Perform other related administrative investigative duties as assigned. Candidates must be eligible for and obtain a Secret Clearance within 6 months of appointment. Failure to obtain will result in termination. Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required. 1 year responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales, store work of any kind, demonstrated ability to perform satisfactorily. 1 year specialized experience demonstrating knowledge of general law enforcement methods and techniques or investigative type work, protecting property, equipment or materials and maintaining rules and regulations. Substitution of education for experience: for (2 years experience) 1 year academic study above high school level including 6 semester hours in policy administration, police law evidence investigation, criminology, enforcement or similar subjects may substitute for each year of experience.
