The Gilbert Generating Station, located on a 232‑acre site along the Delaware River in Hunterdon County, features a 288 MW four‑on‑one natural gas combined‑cycle unit and a 152 MW oil/gas‑fired simple‑cycle peaking turbine. Originally commissioned in the 1920s as a coal‑fired facility, the plant was converted to oil in 1970 and later transitioned to natural gas.

Opportunity Summary The Control Room Operator (CRO) monitors all plant systems continuously, clears alarms and upset conditions through appropriate corrective actions, and executes plant shutdown and startup procedures. The CRO ensures the plant meets generating requirements while operating safely and efficiently, adhering to approved procedures, guidelines, and plant directives.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist in startup, operation, and shutdown of all equipment, including turbines and generators.

Ensure safe and efficient operation of combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliaries.

Support NAES Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance Programs.

Maintain daily logs and plant records accurately (electrical output, steam output, emissions, fuel, water, heat rates).

Review logs and records to confirm effective tag‑out procedures and equipment status.

Maintain plant operating manuals, technical references, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.

Communicate plant abnormalities to personnel and management.

Monitor equipment performance and take corrective action when alarms activate.

Direct work of others as needed.

Participate in staff training and shift relief procedures.

Proactively monitor all plant equipment and systems.

Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment failures.

Support control measures during plant upset conditions.

Support maintenance team with LOTO, equipment identification, and work requests.

Complete additional tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.

Working Relationships The CRO reports to the Operations Manager and Plant Manager, giving direction to operations personnel and responding to their directions.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms, lifting up to 50 lbs, and operating in a power‑plant environment that may involve confined spaces, hazardous materials, high temperatures, and noise. Protective equipment may include hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, flame‑resistant clothing, and fall protection. Smoking is strictly prohibited.

Work Schedule Primarily rotating day shift; occasional night shifts, extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and on‑call status may be required.

Compensation Base pay of $46.09 or $51.27 per hour, depending on qualifications, per the applicable CBA.

Qualifications

Current State of New Jersey Blue Seal Stationary Engineer’s License or ability to obtain one within 12 months.

Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or related field preferred.

Extensive power‑plant operations experience, especially control‑room management and system monitoring.

Experience operating combined‑cycle large‑frame gas turbine plants preferred.

Knowledge of plant equipment, systems, and procedures (turbines, generators, HRSGs).

Understanding of thermodynamic processes, turbine principles, closed‑system steam generation, safety protocols, hazardous waste management, and plant operating parameters.

Water chemistry control, water treatment operations, and chemical handling experience required.

Background with piping and instrument schematics and process controls desirable.

Completion of the Operator Qualification Program within the defined period.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.
