Execute assigned preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance tasks using the CMMS and collect condition‑based data to support equipment reliability and maintenance planning in a 2×1 combined‑cycle configuration.
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions across gas turbine, HRSG, and steam turbine systems.
Monitor plant operating conditions by reading and interpreting meters, gauges, and basic instrumentation, including temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry parameters.
Operate combined‑cycle plant equipment with minimal supervision in accordance with established operating procedures, maintenance practices, and safety policies.
Install piping, conduit, and mechanical components to support maintenance activities, system upgrades, and approved plant modifications, including welding and cutting associated with piping and metal fabrication work.
Set up and operate machine shop tools and equipment to perform routine machining, fitting, alignment, and balancing tasks.
Perform mechanical work during planned outages, including inspections, repairs, and component replacement on GE Frame gas turbines, HRSG systems, and the D11 steam turbine, in accordance with outage schedules and safety requirements.
Oversee contractor and vendor activities during maintenance and outage work to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and work scope requirements.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to support safe plant operation, effective maintenance execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Assist in developing and reviewing preventive maintenance procedures to ensure alignment with OEM recommendations and Empire Generating Facility standards.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, spare parts inventories, and plant documentation, including manuals, technical references, drawings, and work history.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations & Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager in support of plant operations and maintenance objectives.
NAES Safe Safety is a core value at NAES, and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to remain mentally alert and work safely at all times. Employees must also adhere to all safety warnings and posted signs while on company property. The company requires compliance with NAES safety rules and procedures. Adherence to these safety responsibilities is one of the key factors in employee performance evaluation.
Working Relationships The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Operations & Maintenance Manager and receives general direction from other plant management. The role involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, work from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
Operate in a power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise.
Use protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame‑resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high‑voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty All personnel participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post‑offer physical examination, drug screening, and post‑employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule The Maintenance Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. The position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and periodic on‑call status as needed.
Compensation This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $44 to $52 per hour, with an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills
Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent technical training or industry/military experience considered.
Extensive hands‑on experience in power generation facility maintenance, preferably in a combined‑cycle environment, as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or equivalent.
Strong working knowledge of power plant operations and preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, with ability to troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul mechanical systems and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, including lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and plant safety policies.
Proficiency in mechanical assembly, disassembly, alignment, and installation; skilled in precision measuring instruments, diagnostic tools, and fabrication equipment, including machining, welding, cutting, and rigging tools.
Ability to read and interpret meters, gauges, and basic instrumentation to monitor operating conditions such as temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry, and use this data to support equipment reliability.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with operations and engineering, oversee contractors as required, and clearly document and communicate maintenance activities.
Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license in good standing at all times.
