About Position The WIC Assistant Manager will support a team of fellow Nutritionists, Administrative Assistants and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, who collectively serve as the primary source of nutrition and lactation support to a vibrant and diverse local community. The WIC Assistant Manager is accountable for the day-to-day administrative operations of the Piedmont Health Services (PHS) WIC Program, including staff scheduling, timesheet & payroll approvals, and inventory management. Performs a variety of responsible tasks that include providing programmatic, policy-related and technical assistance to the WIC staff. Ensures program quality control that aligns with the standards, policies and mission of PHS, as well as the national and state WIC agencies. Provides supervision and direct support to Lead Nutritionists and Nutritionist who routinely rotate sites. Assesses the training needs of the team and provides appropriate training opportunities. Involved in hiring, evaluation, auditing and performance improvement plans within the department. Works collaboratively with the WIC & Breastfeeding Programs Manager to meet program goals set by the state WIC agency and PHS.

Duties / Responsibilities

Supports and monitors program outreach within the department. Conducts state mandated audits and required periodic reviews of the breastfeeding supplies inventory and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.

Collaborates with local agencies to support breastfeeding in the community and is actively involved with community and national breastfeeding groups that furthers breastfeeding promotion and support for the WIC Program.

Responsible for assigning float staff to cover clinics and ensuring clinic coverage for vacations and other absences due to illness, trainings or meetings.

Provides direct patient care as a nutritionist in WIC clinics routinely.

Serves as an agency liaison to the NC WIC Program; presenting reports as needed, assuring program integrity through programmatic auditing both locally and at state level, and completion of contract agreements.

Conducts quarterly staff meetings, nutritionists, supervisor meetings and trainings as required by WIC Policy

Organizes required and additional outreach efforts for the WIC/Nutrition Program.

Assists in writing and organizing grant efforts to further the WIC and Nutrition Services program.

Assists in program development in the area of WIC within PHS.

Places annual order of breastfeeding supplies with the State WIC Agency.

Participates in program audits, CAP development, local agency self-assessments and performance reviews conducted by the State WIC Agency.

Supports embedded WIC services within other health center departments as needed.

Involved with development and implementation of nutrition and lactation related projects which impact WIC participant health outcomes/improvement both internally and with external community partners.

If an IBCLC, also provides direct care to breastfeeding mothers and babies in the WIC and medical clinics, as well as during home or hospital visits when needed.

Qualifications Education Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university.

Current/valid License Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition, licensure as an Internal Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), or completion of all coursework/internship and exam eligible for RD or IBCLC, preferred.

Required

Minimum two years of public health experience and two years supervisory experience preferred.

Must complete North Carolina Lactation Educator Program Certification and all units of the Breastfeeding Supplies Competency Training within 1 year of hire.

Requires frequent sitting for long periods, operation of standard office machines and computer. May require lifting of up to 25 pounds.

Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Requires use of office equipment, such as computer terminals, telephones or copiers.

Requires normal vision range.

Work is performed in an office, hospital, and home environment and exposes worker to potential environmental and health contaminants via contact with staff and clients.

Some travel will be required for this position.

Requires valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Preferred

Must also meet qualifications of Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE). IBCLC Certification, preferred.

Minimum two years of public health experience and two years supervisory experience preferred.

English/Spanish bilingual preferred.

Pay Range $57,858 - $77,757
