Mission and Environment Jefferson Center is committed to building an inclusive community where mental health matters. Milieu Staff work the three 12‑hour shifts in the Crisis Stabilization Unit for children and youth, providing brief (3‑5 day) crisis stabilization treatment.

Essential Duties

Provides milieu management, guidance, safety, stability, and direction to children/youth using a strengths‑based approach.

Makes a consistent and punctual appearance; maintains acceptable attendance.

Interacts with children/youth and families to provide guidance and de‑escalate potentially dangerous situations.

Acquires and maintains certification in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training (CPI).

Documents accurately and timely—admissions, shift notes, discharges, inventories, screening of belongings, individual and group sessions, medication occurrences (MOR), and adverse incident reports (AIR).

Monitors and records client vital signs, physical condition and behavior; administers blood pressure assessments when the nurse is not available.

Acquires and maintains certification as Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) and in CPR/First Aid; administers medications per QMAP standards.

Assists planning, conducting and supervising patient activities, including community meetings, group activities, external meetings, family visitation, recreational activities, and life‑skills training.

Facilitates or co‑facilitates psychoeducation groups.

Assists the team in coordinating treatment referrals for clients needing continued treatment after discharge.

Assigns and monitors clients completing residential unit chores in all main areas.

Collaborates with kitchen staff regarding meals and snacks.

Practices OSHA safety standards and disposes of biohazard waste per OSHA guidelines.

May assist in transporting admitted clients to hospitals or other approved services as directed.

Responds promptly to client needs, phone calls, email and other requests to maintain positive interactions.

Adheres to all Jefferson Center policies and procedures.

Demonstrates sensitivity to the diverse cultural and situational needs of patients.

Additional Responsibilities

Adapts to staffing needs: may be redeployed to other units or teams within the Center as required.

Utilizes skills to support various teams while remaining within licensure and credential scope.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Minimum 1 year of experience in a human services field or 2 years of college coursework.

Experience in mental health, inpatient, residential, crisis prevention or related settings preferred.

Ability to facilitate group activities and produce high‑quality documentation.

Minimum age 21.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Salary and Bonuses Salary grade 49 (High School/GED): $50,000 annually ($24.04/hr). Salary grade 50 (Bachelor’s): $55,000 annually ($26.44/hr). Bonus: $1,000 at 1‑month anniversary, $1,000 at 6‑months, $500 at 1‑year (total $2,500). Eligibility requires a minimum of 20 hours/week and 40‑hour FTE for prorating.
