Facilities Maintenance Worker – Pocatello Fire Department

The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds, including light construction, grounds keeping, and repair duties. The role involves electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, and equipment maintenance to keep facilities clean, sanitary, and safe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform building maintenance and repair work on department facilities and structures, including cleaning, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, welding, concrete assignments.

Perform grounds maintenance, such as mowing, fertilizing, pest and weed control, snow and ice removal.

Assist in maintenance and repair of department equipment and vehicles and related electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural systems.

Maintain, service, and repair equipment and tools; manage fuel inventory, ordering, and record fuel usage.

Maintain work orders, maintenance, environmental, and inspection records; keep tools and equipment inventory.

Weld and fabricate parts as needed; perform duties of other workers in the department as required.

Direct work activities of seasonal or part‑time employees.

Carry out building cleaning and maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting furniture and fixtures, washing restrooms, hallways, offices, meeting rooms, and public areas, cleaning glass surfaces, sanitizing restrooms, and maintaining supply levels.

Empty and clean trash containers, transport bagged waste, and separate recyclables.

Clean light fixtures, replace bulbs/ballasts, polish reflective surfaces, and polish mirrors and wood.

Clean spills, spot‑clean carpets, remove graffiti, and maintain custodial equipment.

Perform other duties as assigned; management may re‑assign responsibilities at any time.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED.

Class B CDL with airbrake endorsements required.

One (1) year of general maintenance experience preferred.

Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides required skills and abilities may be considered.

CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices for cleaning and maintaining public buildings.

Preparation, use, and disposal of chemical cleaning agents.

Appropriate use of cleaning agents for varied surface types.

Safety procedures when cleaning and moving furniture.

Building trade skills, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, painting, welding, and related disciplines.

Work environment includes public building cleaning and maintenance, outdoor weather conditions with extreme temperatures, heights, exposure to hazardous chemicals, street traffic, loud equipment, moving vehicles, and power tools. The position requires operating light equipment and power tools, handling cleaning substances, and operating vehicles, including a truck and tanker trailer.
