7 Metals Manufacturing is seeking a mid-level Quality Inspector with hands‑on experience inspecting sheet metal fabricated parts and CNC‑machined components. This role supports in‑process and final inspection, ensures compliance to engineering drawings and customer requirements, and plays a key role in producing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) for multiple customers with varying and frequently changing documentation formats. This position is ideal for an inspector with 3–7 years of experience who is highly proficient in Excel, comfortable building and managing complex FAIR packages, and experienced working in a fast‑paced, high‑mix manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Control
Perform in‑process and final inspections of sheet metal and CNC‑machined parts Inspect parts to engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications Verify dimensions, tolerances, material, finishes, coatings, and hardware installation Perform First Article Inspections (FAI / FAIR) in accordance with customer‑specific requirements Identify nonconforming product and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) FAIRs, Excel & Documentation (Critical Function)
Create, manage, and maintain FAIR packages for multiple customers Work with constantly changing customer FAIR formats, templates, and requirements Build and modify Excel‑based FAIRs, including:
Linked cells, formulas, and structured tables Multi‑sheet workbooks Clear traceability between drawings, ballooned characteristics, and results
Ensure FAIRs are complete, accurate, and customer‑ready prior to submission Organize and maintain inspection and FAIR records in accordance with ISO 9001 and customer requirements Measurement & Equipment
Use precision inspection tools including:
Calipers, micrometers, height gauges Pin, thread, and functional gauges Optical comparator (as applicable)
Support or assist with CMM and/or FARO arm inspections (preferred) Audits, Root Cause & Support
Support customer audits and internal audits Assist in root cause investigations and corrective actions Communicate quality issues clearly to production, engineering, and management Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection and documentation Required Qualifications
3–7 years experience as a Quality Inspector in a manufacturing environment Proven experience inspecting sheet metal fabricated parts and CNC‑machined components Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T Very strong Excel skills (required), including:
Creating and managing multi‑sheet workbooks Using formulas and structured layouts Adapting to new customer FAIR templates quickly Extensive experience creating FAIRs for multiple customers with different and evolving formats
Proficient with standard inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) High attention to detail and documentation accuracy Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CMM and/or FARO arm inspection Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems Experience in high‑mix / low‑to‑medium volume manufacturing Exposure to customer corrective action systems (SCARs, 8D, root cause) Soft Skills
Highly organized and detail‑oriented Strong written and verbal communication Ability to manage multiple FAIRs and priorities simultaneously Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision Professional and confident during customer interactions and audits Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and move throughout the shop floor Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required Manual dexterity for precision measurement tasks Growth Opportunity
