Duties Description
Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team and works with more difficult and challenging patients.
Provides individual and group therapy and facilitates a variety of clinical activities.
Acts as a presenter, conducting lectures, videos, psycho‑educational groups, and specialty groups.
Functions as a primary counselor, managing all facets of clinical services to a patient caseload.
Intervenes when patients are in crisis and utilizes clinical skills to problem‑solve.
Leads interviews to complete various assessments; performs psycho‑social assessments as part of individual treatment plans; monitors patients’ compliance with treatment goals.
Completes forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to all applicable confidentiality regulations and ensuring procedural correctness of patient records.
Provides or coordinates all facets of patient care, including follow‑up and transportation of patients as needed using NYS vehicles.
Provides consultation to less senior staff.
Uses a computer proficiently for patient documentation and other required communication.
Completes other job‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Currently employed as an Addictions Counselor 2 OR current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Advanced Counselor (CASAC‑Advanced) or Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Master Counselor (CASAC‑Master) in NYS AND one‑year post‑CASAC professional counseling experience OR eligible for transfer.
HELPS Program eligible.
Applicants must possess current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs.
Failure to maintain certification and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in termination of employment.
Additional Comments The salary range listed for this posting reflects the full range for this graded position, factoring in annual performance advances based on satisfactory performance reviews.
Candidates with no prior state service will begin at the hiring rate (starting rate of the salary range) listed above, plus applicable location, geographic, and shift differentials.
Promotion salaries are calculated in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules, and negotiated union contracts.

Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position.
Chosen candidate(s) will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis.
Our Addiction Treatment Centers (ATCs) operate 24/7/365; therefore MOT is an essential function of this position and is critical to maintaining adequate staffing at all times.
Background investigation requirements include a Staff Exclusion List check, a Criminal Background Check (CBC), and a screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).
Prospective employees may be required to pay fees for used, fingerprinted, and searched databases as part of the investigation.
