Duties Description The Addictions Counselor 1 serves as a member of the Addiction Treatment Center’s (ATC’s) multidisciplinary treatment team and works under the supervision of a higher-level Addictions Counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker performing duties related to the care and counseling of clients.

Functions as member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Provides individual and group therapy and facilitates a variety of clinical activities including facilitating recreational activities as needed.

Presents/conducts lectures, videos, psycho-educational groups, and specialty groups.

Functions as a primary counselor, managing all facets of clinical services to patient caseload.

Intervenes when patients are in crisis and utilizes clinical skills to problem solve.

Transports patients as needed using NYS vehicle.

Interviews patients to complete various assessments; performs Psycho‑Social Assessment as part of individual treatment plan development; monitors patients’ compliance with Treatment Goals.

Completes forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to all applicable confidentiality regulations.

Provides or coordinates all facets of patients’ care.

Participates in activities to improve patient care and facility operations.

Authors procedurally correct patient records.

Uses a computer daily for patient documentation and other required communication.

Minimum Qualifications For permanent, competitive appointment, the candidate must be currently employed as an Addictions Counselor 1 or eligible for transfer.

For permanent, non‑competitive appointment under the Civil Service Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, the candidate must be currently registered as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State. Applicants must possess current registration as a CASAC in New York State and remain eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Failure to maintain certification and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in termination of employment.

This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position. The chosen candidate(s) will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis. MOT is applied during times of emergency, after the agency has made a good faith effort to cover overtime with volunteers, hourly staff, or contracted staff. Our Addiction Treatment Centers operate 24/7/365 programming; therefore, MOT is an essential function of this position and is critical to maintaining adequate staffing at all times to ensure the health and safety of clients within the facility.

Salary: $59,994 – $76,359* + $4,000 Location pay + $575 Inconvenience pay.

Character Requirements Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. 2) Investigated through a criminal background check (CBC) that includes state and federal criminal history record checks. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees.
