911 Dispatcher (Communications Officer)

Are you looking for a career opportunity where you can make a difference in your community? We have a great opportunity for you as Communications Officer. The Communication Officer receives calls on the City's 911 system, both for emergencies and non-emergencies. For non-emergency calls, provides information, answers questions, takes messages, and/or refers caller to appropriate staff; contacts various other departments as needed to resolve problems. For emergency calls, obtains information from callers and determines the appropriate agency to respond; contacts and dispatches appropriate agency; provides agency with information needed to respond and to ensure personnel/officer safety; works to keep caller calm; monitor status of response; and contacts wrecker services and utility companies as needed. The Communication Officer monitors and operates a variety of radio frequencies; handles inquiries on driver's licenses, vehicle tags, stolen articles and property, guns, wanted and missing persons, warrants and summons; provides various information from computer data base as requested by officers.
Additional duties include logging incoming calls and dispatch information into an automated system; entering information pertinent to incoming calls, dispatched agencies, response time and actions taken; and maintains records of calls and dispatching activities; recording all officer calls, dispatch time, arrival time and complete time; filing required documentation. Communication Officers work 12-hour shifts which does include nights, weekends and holidays.
