The Greenhouse Editor ensures that our internal and external communications adhere to brand voice, are clear and consistent, complete, grammatically correct, and move through the formal review process on a timely basis. This review is accomplished during both the validation and review stages of Quest’s Communication Review Process (CRP).
The Editor role also leads or co‑leads (with Greenhouse Sr. Copywriter) all brand editorial initiatives as a key member of the Marketing and Greenhouse teams and is pivotal in shaping and reinforcing the Quest brand voice across all platforms, ensuring content integrity, and elevating our narrative to engage audiences and support our marketing objectives.
Responsibilities The Editor is responsible for ensuring that all materials reflect the highest level of quality and readability in addition to grammatical and factual accuracy. Primary duties include reviewing and correcting (as needed) spelling, grammar, layout (proofreading), checking content and references, imposing consistent styling, rewording or rewriting (copy editing) as necessary, and ensuring all content follows AMA and Quest house style.
The Editor will also work with various content owners across the business on materials such as marketing collateral, training documents and websites/social media. They may also assist in development/research/writing of copy as assigned.
CRP review
Evaluate the following during validation and review phases: overall continuity, consistency, and clarity
Brand voice and messaging: platform, values, clear/dynamic/consistent voice; appropriate grade level for audience
Brand identity: registered logos, marks, and trademarks; approved boilerplate (copyright language)
Proofreading: spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and context
Formatting: hyphenation, capitalization, treatment of web addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and other data
Layout: consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.)
References: present where needed, and appropriately cited in the correct format (AMA); limited fact‑checking or confirmation of proper use of references
Basic medical terminology: familiarity with Quest capabilities, tests, diseases, abbreviations, etc.
Company terminology and house style: e.g., specimen vs sample, customer vs client, patient vs consumer, etc.
Legal/medical DISCLAIMERS: keep current with any disclaimer changes, both corporate and per individual business units
Company and industry facts: statistics related to number of employees, PSCs, # of physician experts, etc. (update annually per 10‑K report or more often if necessary)
Work with submitters on pre‑reviews, rejected items, and offer brand and/or Greenhouse creative consultation to prepare submission for formal review
Assist CRP administrator with submission triage and project tracking and reporting
Work with CRP administrator to leverage platform analytics
Proofreading
Proofread Greenhouse projects for a variety of print and digital mediums using CRP criteria (listed above)
Ensure all client, legal, and compliance annotations are correctly interpreted and addressed
Provide proofreading sign‑off on projects at final release to ensure accuracy
Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows
Understand client's products, audiences, and business objectives and ensure copy is relevant and effective
Collaborate with Greenhouse project management team to resolve issues, negotiate revisions, and verify information whenever necessary
Make sure appropriate grade level is used (readability)
Copy editing
Edit a wide range of content, including print, digital, video, and social media, with a keen eye for detail and narrative coherence
Deliver edited, complete, and error‑free copy
Check content, impose consistent styles, and reword or rewrite as needed to improve readability
Suggest changes, verify sources, and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare for client presentation and publication
Collaborate with GH designers on typographical hierarchy
Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and attributed
Collaborate with project management team as needed for specific project objectives
Edit and be accountable for the final review of GH projects
Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to
Ensure all editing results in a consistent voice and tone across all copy and is in alignment with the brand tone and voice standards
Actively learn new techniques to be more proficient in editing skills
Leverage research and data to inform editing executions
Be pragmatic with editing executions, always keeping eye on the project objectives
Thought leadership (in conjunction with Greenhouse Sr. Copywriter)
Maintain verbal identity sections of Brand Lab/brand portals, including updating best practices and guidelines
Identify knowledge gaps; create and deliver related training to marketers, Greenhouse team, and relevant affiliated groups
Participate in Legal, Medical, Compliance committee meetings for product areas that require an additional layer of review beyond CRP (e.g., CIT, Haystack, Blueprint Genetics)
Foster continuous improvement and professional growth
Lead/co‑lead Language Lab, representing editorial excellence across the company and creating enterprise‑wide consistency, including within/across Greenhouse
Work with Greenhouse project management team to evaluate and continuously improve editorial processes (e.g., Greenhouse quality control process)
Identify potential case studies from CRP submissions where there is opportunity for improvement that would elevate perception of Quest, improve consumer/client experience, or provide other benefit
Provide editorial insight during strategic planning sessions and contribute to the overall content strategy (e.g., Plain Language Initiative); lead initiatives as assigned by Director
Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements, incorporating innovative editing techniques and technologies into our workflow
Qualifications Required Work Experience
Strong editor with 5+ years of professional‑level editing/proofreading experience (healthcare industry experience preferred, but not required)
Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple formats and platforms
Proficiency in AMA style required; knowledge of other standard styles like AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style ideal
Experience writing/editing for print and digital
Understands branding, can articulate and reinforce both visual and voice style guidelines
Effectively uses references available: corporate facts, test coding, medical terminology
Team player with the ability to build and maintain solid working relationships within the team and across teams
Excellent time management skills with an ability to effectively prioritize
Highly organized with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure
Digitally savvy and knowledgeable about various marketing tactics and tools
