The Communications Coordinator will support LIT’s digital presence, content creation, and public messaging strategy. Working under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Engagement, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for drafting and scheduling digital content, capturing stories of impact, maintaining website and newsletter platforms, and contributing to organizational branding efforts. This position will help ensure that LIT’s voice is clear, consistent, and compelling across all audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Messaging and Written Communications 35%
Draft and edit written content including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, talking points, and partner-facing updates
Support internal teams in drafting content for external communications (e.g., event invites, coalition letters, fundraising appeals)
Provide copyediting and editorial support to program teams and senior staff as directed.
Supporting the Director with rapid-response messaging during key political, local, or movement moments (drafting posts, gathering visuals, updating website)
Email and Digital Management 20%
Create and send regular email updates to LIT members, partners, and supporters via email marketing platform
Maintain and segment email lists for targeted outreach
Track email and social media analytics (open rate, click-through, etc.) to adjust content strategies and improve engagement
Supporting the Director of Marketing & Engagement in managing the communications calendar and keeping work plans updated
Website and Brand Management 15%
Update and maintain website content to reflect current campaigns, staff, media mentions, and organizational news
Contribute content and format support for annual reports, program summaries, and external-facing materials
Assist with design and formatting of LIT branded material (flyers, signage, presentations, etc.)
Design basic graphics for social media, events, and advocacy campaigns using Canva or similar tools.
Storytelling and Impact Documentation 20%
Interview youth, staff, and community members to lift up stories of impact
Draft and prepare narrative content that reflects LIT’s values, organizing,and programmatic work
Maintain a system to catalog photos, testimonials, and quotes for use across various communication channels
Ensure that all content is culturally responsive, honoring Black and Brown youth voices
Community and Internal Support 10%
Work with the Director of Marketing and Engagement to coordinate organization-wide communications requests
Provide editorial, copyediting, talking points for program teams and senior leaders as needed
Support and attend community events, department events and community engagement efforts including setup, gathering content, logistics, photography, videography
Ensure all messaging aligns with LIT’s values and clearly communicates impact and progress
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1–3 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, or youth/community organizing
Strong writing and editing skills, including visual storytelling
Proficiency in Canva, Google Workspace, and social media platforms (Meta Business Suite, etc.)
Experience with CRMs like EveryAction, Mailchimp, or VAN a plus
Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Passion for youth leadership, social justice, and racial equity
Spanish proficiency is a plus
