Summary of Job Duties The Public Safety Patrol Police Officer works under the general supervision of the UAMS Chief of Police and the direct supervision of a Patrol Sergeant. A UAMS police officer is a highly visible, critical public safety individual and must be committed to excellence, professionalism and community service. We are seeking those who possess integrity, dedication, honesty, moral character and sound judgment.
The Public Safety Patrol Police Officer is responsible for enforcement of traffic and criminal laws along with parking regulations. Our officers are supplied with firearm and uniforms.
Qualifications
High School diploma/GED required.
Be certified by the Arkansas Law Enforcement Standards Training Academy as a Police Officer or become certified within one (1) year of employment (possibility of a one-year extension).
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Possess a valid Driver's License (must have Arkansas Driver's License by date of hire).
No criminal convictions.
Additional Information
Manages stressful situations courteously, tactfully and calmly in a professional manner.
Exercises good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Responds quickly to emergency situations and calls for service without unnecessarily jeopardizing the safety of oneself, other members of the police department or the public. Utilizes common-sense understanding in order to execute written, oral or diagrammed instructions.
Proficient in the use of firearms and the operation of police vehicles.
Observes situations objectively and analytically, records and reports them clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability and willingness to perform moderately physical work.
Ability and willingness to perform work indoors, outdoors and in a vehicle.
Exhibits good character (courteous, friendly and empathetic) as determined by a detailed background investigation.
Attends related training classes and schools as needed. UAMS is a very diverse campus so officers must be at ease with members of other ethnic, cultural, and social groups.
May perform other duties as assigned by superior officers or administration.
Salary Information $44,500.00 - $57,700.00
