Public Safety Officer - Per Diem at Westerly Hospital

Responsibilities
Wears issued uniform properly along with all issued equipment, patrols hospital and grounds, checks locked spaces on a routine basis, observes unusual activity that may become a security concern, responds to all requests for assistance by hospital staff, escorts visitors throughout the facility, maintains a visible presence in and around the hospital, locks all doors according to schedule, maintains security of the secured doors and areas, makes frequent patrols, looks for unauthorized persons, maintenance problems, and unusual activity, completes reports, monitors parking lots, dispatches appropriate response to all emergencies, responds to all radio calls and pages, records all unusual activities and incidents in proper logs, offers assistance to staff, patients and visitors when needed.
Interacts with public in a positive manner, responding to requests and providing general guidance on security and access issues.
Responds to altercations with patients, visitors and staff, properly uses Defensive Resources, applies MOAB and CPI principles, maintains respect for all parties, assists in de‑escalating incidents, works with local law enforcement when warranted.
Understands hospital SOP for restraint application, assists medical staff in applying restraints or physically restraining any person.
Completes all required safety education programs; provides accurate responses to safety questions; demonstrates proper body mechanics.
Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipment, completes annual safety education modules, understands emergency and infection control procedures.
Interacts with all above in a considerate, helpful, courteous manner, fosters professional relationships, maintains confidentiality of hospital and patient information, presents neat appearance, maintains a can‑do attitude.
Qualifications Education High School Graduate or GED required.
Experience Previous law enforcement, military, dispatching, or security experience preferred.
Licensure
CPI, MOAB, Defensive Resources (Baton, Handcuffing, OC Foam), and Restraint Certification – must be obtained within 6 months.
Valid Driver's license required.
Special Skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, competency with computer skills, multitasking, and dispatching.
