YOUTH & ADULT SPORTS SUPPORT - WEEKNIGHTS & WEEKENDS (RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST III-V-N/C)

Join the City of Long Beach Community Recreation Services Bureau in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine to lead youth and adult sports programs year‑round.
Positions available at the following levels:
RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST III – $16.76 / hour
RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST IV – $17.31 / hour
RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST V – $18.09 / hour
Key responsibilities:
Officiate assigned youth games in department‑offered sports (basketball, ball hockey, indoor soccer, t‑ball, baseball, softball, flag football, volleyball) with focus on fundamentals and good sportsmanship.
Support adult sports programming through gym/field management, record and scorekeeping, and assistance to officials (basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball).
Prepare and maintain courts/fields for play, including setup, breakdown, cleanup.
Monitor and regulate games, complete paperwork and scorekeeping.
Ensure rosters, attendance, required documents submitted and maintained.
Maintain, distribute, and oversee proper use of sports equipment and supplies.
Communicate clearly with participants, parents, staff regarding schedules, rules, program updates.
Attend staff meetings, trainings, development sessions.
Ensure safety, supervision, well‑being of all participants.
Follow department dress code and maintain professional appearance.
Uphold Code of Conduct with positive attitude.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Working knowledge of sports, either leading/coaching a team or playing on a team.
At least 16 years of age (under 18 must have valid work permit).
Reliable transportation to work and between game sites.
Flexible schedule, including weeknights and weekends, at various park locations.
Desirable qualifications:
Experience working with youth in recreation programs, sports, or related areas.
Ability to relate well to children, parents, staff; ability and willingness to adapt to a changing environment.
