Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an education recruitment organization, is currently seeking a Middle School English Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at private and independent schools in the Washington DC area.
Base pay range:
$50,000 – $85,000 per year. Pay is based on skills and experience; talk with recruiter for details.

Responsibilities
Teach several sections of ELA, English courses for students in grades 5-8.
Develop lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students.
Utilize diverse instructional strategies to teach students both in small groups and one‑on‑one settings.
Implement effective classroom management strategies that support consistent routines and student accountability.
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and development.
Provide updates to parents about student progress, via written reports and in‑person conferences.
Design, administer, and assess formative and summative assessments to measure student achievement and growth.
Serve as an advisor for a group of students, offering support, mentorship, and guidance to help them thrive academically and personally.
Participate in extracurricular responsibilities, including assisting with sports teams or monitoring student clubs and events.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Humanities, Education, or related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
At least 3 years of English teaching experience.
Previous experience working with middle school students.
Ability to teach full range of middle school English courses.
No teaching license or credential is required.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Detail‑oriented and resilient.
Additional Desired Qualities
A desire to be involved in extra‑curricular activities and broader school community.
Experience working in independent schools preferred, but not required.
