CDOC TEMP Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) / Medication Administration (QMAP) - (DENVER) Department Information: The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) seeks qualified candidates to join our dedicated team. Location Denver, CO – This position may also fulfill future vacancies at this site. The posting may be used to fill remaining locations.

Job Type Temporary – 9 months or less. This position is open to Colorado state residents and non‑residents.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and feeding.

Obtain and record vital signs for review by staff nurse.

Assist with patient transfers, turning in bed, and turning devices.

Report changes in patient skin condition and healthcare complaints to the shift registered nurse.

Empty catheter bags; offer fluids and record intake and output; apply external catheters.

Talk with patients to maintain orientation to person, place, and time.

Respond to call lights and inmate requests for assistance.

Assist with meal distribution; change linen according to unit schedule.

Assist patient with bed making, room cleanup, and other environmental duties.

Perform dressing changes, soaks, finger‑stick blood glucose measurements, vital signs, and pulse oximetry under RN supervision.

Maintain appropriate tool and material control and accountability.

Participate in development of patient care plans.

Restrict inmates for medical reasons, as required.

Provide clerical assistance: answering phones, taking and forwarding accurate messages, transcribing medical orders, filing medical records.

Retrieve and enter data in computerized systems.

Schedule inmates for sick line and chronic care visits per facility guidelines.

Assist in medication delivery; receive, verify, store, and prepare return pharmaceuticals.

Assist in inventory maintenance and stocking of supplies.

Print or distribute official announcements as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of full‑time experience as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).

Special Qualifications

Valid, active CNA certification from the State of Colorado.

Valid, active QMAP certification. A copy of the QMAP certification or registration must be attached to the application.

Required Competencies

Self‑control and the ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations.

Remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure.

Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction.

Ability to work with inmates of diverse backgrounds.

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Basic computer literacy.

Integrity to handle confidential health‑care information.

Operational independence within the scope of a CNA.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.

Availability to work various shifts, including nights, evenings, and rotating schedules.

Physical ability to perform defensive tactics, including lifts and restraints as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working as a CNA in a correctional environment.

Current CPR certification.

Current First Aid certification.

Experience with patients who have multiple disabilities (physical and mental).

Experience with the senior population.

Hospice experience.
