Irrigation Technician
Inside Higher Ed – Building Services: Landscape & Grounds
Location:
Downtown Atlanta Campus (Atlanta)
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay:
$43,000 – $45,000 annually with benefits.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct wet checks and monitor irrigation system performance in designated areas.
Operate timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers.
Program irrigation controllers as needed.
Replace, repair, troubleshoot, and adjust faulty irrigation components (controllers, valves, heads, main and lateral lines).
Install new drip irrigation and turf sprinkler systems.
Perform scheduled shut‑offs for campus event requests.
Identify water deficiencies in turf areas and implement corrective actions.
Order, purchase, and inventory supplies.
Operate lightweight trenching and digging machinery (e.g., ditch witch, skid‑steer).
Travel to any GSU campus to perform work.
Assist in maintenance activities as required.
Guide and oversee the work of groundskeepers or other support staff when needed.
Perform physical tasks such as heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling objects over 50 lb.
Read, understand, and enforce safety procedures.
Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Three years of related experience in landscape irrigation, sprinkler system installation, maintenance, or repair, or related plumbing equipment and pumps.
Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Preferred Requirements
Experience with lightweight trenching and digging machinery (trenchers, excavators, ditchers).
Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.
Knowledge of Xeriscape techniques.
Strong communication, time‑management, and organizational skills.
Ability to read mechanical drawings (blueprints).
