Irrigation Technician
Department: Building Services: Landscape & Grounds
Location: Atlanta Campus
Salary: $43,000–$45,000 plus benefits
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm
Status: Open until filled
What You Will Do The ideal candidate will perform tasks related to irrigation, including maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, replacing, repairing, troubleshooting, and adjusting faulty components such as controllers, valves, heads, lines, belts, switches, and contacts. The role also involves operating lightweight trenching and digging machinery and guiding the work of others such as groundkeepers when needed.
Duties
Conduct wet checks and monitor system performance regularly.
Operate timers, clocks, and sprinkler controls.
Program irrigation controllers as needed.
Replace, repair, and troubleshoot faulty components.
Install new drip irrigation and turf sprinkler systems.
Perform scheduled shutoffs for campus events.
Identify water deficiencies in turf areas and correct them.
Order, purchase, and inventory supplies.
Operate lightweight trenching and digging machinery (e.g., Ditch Witch, mini‑skid steer).
Drive to any GSU campus for work as required.
Assist in maintenance activities as needed.
Guide and supervise related support staff.
Perform heavy physical activity (lifting, pushing, pulling over 50 lb).
Follow and enforce safety procedures.
Attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED and at least three years of related experience (e.g., irrigation systems, plumbing, pumps).
Valid Georgia driver’s license.
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge of operating lightweight trenching and digging machinery.
Knowledge of work‑related health and safety regulations.
Knowledge of xeriscape techniques.
Effective communication, time‑management, and organizational skills.
Ability to read mechanical drawings (e.g., blueprints).
