Patrol/Communications Officer (Part‑time On‑call)
Arcadia University is seeking a Patrol/Communications Officer to provide safety and security support across campus.
Overview Public Safety Officers perform a variety of tasks that help ensure the day‑to‑day safety and security of the Arcadia University community. Officers interact with the internal and external community during both non‑emergency and emergency situations. They gather critical information while coordinating the emergency response, including working with campus partners, law enforcement, and emergency services personnel. Officers support many areas of the university – Student Affairs, Facilities, Academic Affairs, and Athletics. They escort students, respond to lock‑outs, and conduct regular patrols. Public Safety Officers may be required to work during school closures, weather emergencies, and holiday breaks.
Part‑time Weekend Shifts On‑call officers work weekend shifts only.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of the Arcadia University community by conducting high‑visibility patrols of administrative buildings, residential buildings, and campus grounds.
Provide security presence in university buildings and facilities, open and secure buildings according to specified schedules, and prevent and report violations of university rules.
Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot, by vehicle, or bicycle, perform security checks, give directions, provide escorts, and offer first aid.
Respond to emergency situations such as alarms, fire alarms, evacuations, illnesses and injuries in a timely manner.
Complete detailed written incident reports describing the response and actions taken concerning emergency incidents or policy violations.
Provide security services during special events including commencement, open houses, university weekend events, sporting events, and social functions.
Monitor security services access into the residence halls and respond to fire and security alarms.
Enforce parking regulations throughout university parking lots, issue tickets, and regulate campus vehicle and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety.
Act as an information resource to students, visitors, and university personnel.
Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
Uniforms are provided by the university; employees must provide their own black shoes.
Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot, on stairs, driving a vehicle, or bicycle.
Ability to remain standing or sitting for an extended period of time.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to work evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays and be flexible for various shifts and schedules.
Ability to work with all levels of university personnel including students and visitors.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a high school or GED diploma with two years of work‑related experience or an equivalent combination of education and military and/or security experience.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle check.
Valid driver's license with no moving violations.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Applicants must be CPR/First Aid certified or have the ability to successfully complete certification. Arcadia University offers CPR/First Aid training on campus at no cost to the employee.
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge of dispatch systems, radio communications, fire systems, CCTV, emergency procedures, and switchboard communications.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in security or law enforcement.
Bachelor's degree or Act 120 (Police Academy), Fire Academy certification, or equivalent.
EMT/First Responder certification is a plus.
