Lead Wetland Scientist
Stantec invites you to lead wetland science projects across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy, transmission, transportation, and private development initiatives within the Midwest region.
Opportunity You will be part of a collaborative team focused on ecology and wetland sciences. Your main tasks include wetland delineation, ecological assessments, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Wetland and water resource delineation and characterization.
Botanical surveys, habitat mapping, and endangered species assessments.
Preparation of wetland delineation and technical reports for clients and regulators.
Support environmental permitting and compliance for federal and state requirements.
Participation in multidisciplinary environmental assessments.
Data management and analysis.
Attendance at client and regulatory meetings, providing technical input.
Possible wildlife surveys and ecological restoration tasks.
Skills & Capabilities
Athletic Corps of Engineers Basic Delineation Training or an approved equivalent.
Effective collaboration with clients, peers, management, and vendors.
Risk and safety management, information handling, and exceptional customer service.
Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize effectively in a fast‑moving environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel regionally with overnight stays as needed.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience with plant, soil, and wetland identification and characterization in the region.
Experience leading wetland delineations according to US Army Corps of Engineers Manual and regional supplements.
Preferred: experience completing state‑specific wetland function/value and stream assessments.
Preferred: Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or a state‑specific wetland science certification/licensure.
Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time and work in the field for long hours in adverse weather conditions.
Proficiency with mapping and data collection applications such as Field Maps and Survey123.
Pay Range
Locations: MN, OH, VT, various CA, NY areas – $56,800.00 to $82,400.00 annually.
Location & Logistics Primary location: United States – Columbus, OH.
Employment type: Regular, Full‑time.
Travel: Yes (up to 75% of the time).
Schedule: Full time.
