Entry-Level Environmental Scientist/Wetland Scientist Join the Kleinfelder Environmental team as an entry‑level Environmental Scientist or Wetland Scientist. This position involves natural resource assessments and permit services across Maryland and the mid‑Atlantic region, primarily in the energy sector.

Responsibilities

Support stream and wetland delineations under the supervision of experienced staff.

Work in field teams, participating in permitting and compliance activities.

Develop environmental technical documents and permit applications.

Collect field data and assist in permit preparation.

Perform other environmental studies as needed.

Ideal Candidate

Coursework and/or experience conducting stream and wetland delineations in accordance with USACE and state protocols, plant identification, and soil identification.

Ability to work with senior staff to prepare permit documents, environmental reports, correspondence, calculations, and conduct analyses.

Background experience using GPS devices and ArcGIS is desired.

Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Strong planning, organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical abilities.

Willingness to work year‑round in adverse climate and field conditions.

Experience with wetland and stream restoration monitoring.

Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS.

Requirements

B.S. in environmental science, biology, or related field.

0–4 years’ experience performing natural resources assessments (NRI, FSD, RTE), preparing and obtaining permit approvals (JPA, FCP, NEPA).

Compliance with site safety is required.

Excellent writing capabilities and ability to analyze and interpret permitting documents and regulations.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to build relationships, work with a team, and communicate with contractors and clients.

Independent worker with strong problem‑solving capabilities and professional judgment.

Willing to work primarily in Maryland with potential assignments in other states (overnight stays).

Work in all types of weather.

Flexible work schedules and availability to meet priority deadlines outside normal working hours.

Ability to travel with short notice (fieldwork constitutes 60% of the role).

Valid driver’s license.

Salary range: $24.76 per hour to $33.98 per hour, final compensation based on qualifications.
