Job Overview As an integral part of a school's instructional leadership team, the special education coordinator is responsible for overseeing programs that provide educational assistance to children with mental, psychological, learning, behavioral, or physical disabilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
LEA for Domain, Eligibility IEP and Annual Reviews
Supervision and Evaluation of Staff: Licensed and Paraprofessionals
Mediate and Resolve Parent Issues/Complaints
Approve Purchase Order Requisitions, Release Time Requests and Tuition/Workshop/Conference Requests
Screen, Recruit, Interview and Hire Licensed and Paraprofessional Staff
Orientation of New Staff
Responsible for Directing, Integrating and Developing Special Education Curriculums
Assist Staff in Best Teaching Practice
Communication with Staff
Building/Program Supervision and Technical Assistance
Ensure Compliance: IEP, State Rules and Regulations, IDEA, Class Size, Transition, and Licensure
Behavioral Support: CPI and /or PCM Training, Direct Service to Students, Parent/Team Meetings, Observation
Instructional Support: Classroom Observation, Direct Service to Students
Coordinate Professional Development and Staff In-Service
Determining Placement for Field-Based Students
Contribute to Budget Process and Monitor Staff Supply Budgets
Complete Board Reports and Attend Board and Administrative Meetings
Participate in and Support Building-Based Problem Solving Teams
Home Visits/Support
Coordinate PARRC/PSAE/ACT/DLM Testing
Oversee EasyIEP and AimsWeb, and Provide EasyIEP Training to Staff
Facilitate Compliance and Coordinate Transition Services for Students age 14 ½ years and Older
Ensure Compliance with Indicator 13
Provide Training and Assist Teachers with Transition Compliance on Student IEPs
Perform Data Collection and Entry for TPI and Career Cruising
Coordinate with Post-Secondary Agencies and Provide Access to Community Resources such as PUNS, SSI and Guardianship
Qualifications
Teacher evaluator designation preferred.
Experience with Special Education procedures required.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, administrative personnel and the community.
Provide leadership in the operation and management of the Special Education Department and special instructional programs in the district.
Create a climate of positive collaboration and authentic teamwork in all areas of responsibility.
