Water Utility Worker

The Lakewood Water District seeks a dedicated and professional Water Utility Worker to join its Water Distribution Department. The District’s Water Utility Workers are responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing a variety of components of the District’s water distribution system. This position reports to the Water Distribution Supervisor.

Examples of Responsibilities:

Installs, services, and repairs the water distribution system including water mains, services, valves, hydrants, service connections, meters, and other related infrastructure

Performs work on larger projects to install water mains, valves, hydrants, and fire services as part of a crew

Completes various maintenance activities including valve operation, flushing, leak detection, hydrant maintenance, and pipe condition assessment as part of a crew

Responds to complaints or questions from the public regarding the distribution system, including water leaks, pressure loss, and lack of water

Completes service orders issued by staff related to customer concerns, including turning meters on and off for scheduled work, performing disconnects for nonpayment, and repairing and/or replacing services, AMI meters, and registers

Performs locates, collects data for GIS mapping

Performs flagging duties as required and assists with the setup of traffic control devices with limited supervision

Operates a variety of heavy and small equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, and mini excavator, utilizes power tools like cutoff saws, walk behind saws, valve exercising equipment, and hand tools

Assists with grounds and facilities maintenance, including landscaping and other upkeep of District buildings and facilities

Participates in the District’s on-call rotation, complies with District’s response distance policies while on-call

Responds to emergencies, both during the workday and after hours

Lakewood Water District is offering the following 2026 salary ranges for the Water Utility Worker series, dependent upon experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package:

Water Utility Worker I: $30.56 - $41.26

Water Utility Worker II: $35.76 - $48.27

Water Utility Worker III: $40.23 - $54.31

Requirements Qualification requirements include any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

A high school diploma or equivalent.

Two to six years of general maintenance, construction, or utility-related work; maintenance, repair, and operation of a water distribution system of a public utility preferred.

Class A CDL preferred. Washington Distribution Manager water certification required within one year.
