Job Summary This role manages
procurement, materials planning, and supplier coordination
to support production, engineering, and service operations. The Buyer ensures material availability, resolves discrepancies, maintains supply chain continuity, and negotiates favorable commercial terms while adhering to government regulations and company policies. The position contributes directly to
on-time delivery, cost control, inventory management, and supply chain quality .
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and monitor material movement through the production cycle to determine purchase needs.
Resolve discrepancies, ensure material standards are met, and minimize non-conformances or variances.
Develop specifications for new contract orders, gather quotations, analyze bids, and issue purchase orders.
Monitor cost, schedule, and scope of subcontracts to ensure best quality and value.
Evaluate vendor reliability and identify new supply sources when needed.
Manage procurement for assigned commodities while complying with government, quality, and company requirements.
Partner with manufacturing, engineering, and service teams to fulfill material requirements and support on-time delivery.
Facilitate solutions to scheduling changes and technical or commercial supplier issues.
Negotiate supplier terms to support margin improvement and cash-flow objectives.
Assist the Strategic Purchasing Manager with sourcing activities, RFP creation, negotiation planning, vendor selection criteria, contract review, and savings validation.
Help streamline workflows across multiple sites and develop procedures and work instructions.
Assess supply sources to maximize total cost of ownership and negotiate purchase agreements.
Manage subcontracts, foster supplier relationships, and develop alternate supply sources to mitigate risk.
Participate in materials analysis and continuous improvement efforts focused on cost, lead-time, and material optimization.
Conduct sourcing in compliance with all procedures, controls, and policies.
Procure and schedule materials to support daily production, perform data analysis, and communicate product availability.
Review orders against forecast and material availability; adjust as needed.
Perform ERP-based procurement activities including requisition analysis, RFQs/RFPs, bid evaluation, vendor selection, negotiation, and purchase order issuance/management.
Manage supplier issues, maintain purchasing master data, and complete documentation required for government procurement.
Drive continuous improvement in supplier quality, delivery, cost performance, and inventory reduction.
Required Experience
U.S. Citizenship.
3+ years
of experience in a manufacturing purchasing environment.
Recent experience in production procurement, material control, and scheduling using an
MRP automated system .
Strong knowledge of
FAR/DFAR regulations
(preferred).
Experience with
SAP
(strongly preferred).
Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Experience
APICS certification.
Experience in complex, government-regulated manufacturing environments.
