Job Summary The Emergency Department Clinical Social Worker is responsible for the provision of behavioral health services including triage, assessment, intervention, and discharge planning for patients with behavioral health needs in the Emergency Department. The Clinical Social Worker functions as a member of the interdisciplinary care team providing behavioral health and social work expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Emergency clinical assessment of patients, conveying clinical findings and recommendations to the attending physician, and facilitating transfer or discharge to the appropriate level of care.

Maintain all required documentation, following all departmental procedures.

Provide psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a behavioral health or psychosocial need.

Coordinate appropriate referrals and facilities, mandating reporting when a safety issue is identified. Utilize clinical supervision as needed for complex cases.

Collaborate and coordinate care with multidisciplinary team and actively provide feedback and recommendations to patient care.

Understand and accurately assess the appropriate level of care determination.

Facilitate an appropriate disposition plan for patients, demonstrating knowledge of resources including availability, eligibility, cost factors, and types of service.

Observe relevant hospital and department policies and procedures including risk management, infection control, and safety.

Maintain appropriate licensure and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education.

Participate in supervision with Clinical Supervisor, either in individual or group setting, as scheduled by Supervisor.

Perform all other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A Master’s Degree in Social Work.

Licensed as an Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) required.

Experience in behavioral health required.

Experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred.
