Position Overview The Estimator is responsible for leading the complete bidding and pre-construction process for aluminum and glazing projects. This role includes identifying and evaluating bid opportunities, developing accurate and competitive proposals, and preparing shop drawings that support both client approval and internal fabrication requirements.
Serving as both a technical expert and a relationship builder, the Estimator ensures projects are profitable while strengthening partnerships with construction managers, general contractors, and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Bidding & Business Development
Identify bid opportunities through construction managers, general contractors, and other sources.
Log and monitor all bid submissions, record win/loss status, and capture feedback for reasons for non-award.
Review project plans, specifications, and addendums to prepare accurate and complete bids.
Develop bid proposals that balance competitive pricing with company profitability goals.
Build and maintain relationships with construction managers and general contractors to increase bid opportunities.
Collaborate closely with Lakewood Construction’s Pre-Construction team to enhance coordination on their projects with aluminum storefront and glazing, streamline bid reviews, and support successful project development.
Contract Validation & Pre-Construction
Review awarded contracts to confirm alignment with original bids, scope of work, and project requirements.
Address discrepancies or potential risks before project execution begins.
Shop Drawings & Submittals
Prepare and submit detailed shop drawings, material submittals, and product data in compliance with project specifications.
Stay up to date with material lead times to ensure accuracy of fabrication and installation schedule.
Ensure shop drawings include sufficient detail for fabricating aluminum frames, assembling door leafs, and ordering/installing glass.
Coordinate submittal reviews, track approvals, and revise documents as needed.
Qualifications
Previous experience in estimating (strongly preferred someone with an aluminum and glazing background).
Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Proficiency with glazing takeoff software (WinBidPro), AutoCAD (or similar drafting software), Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication skills to interface with clients, construction managers, and internal teams.
Detail-oriented, with the ability to balance accuracy, deadlines, and profitability.
Self-motivated and able to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously.
