This position coordinates the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities and elderly. Work is accomplished through communication with non‑profit/private agencies, public transportation providers and the general public to accept and record transportation requests, enter data into VIA, schedule daily bus trips and dispatch Specialized Transit drivers throughout the day to ensure an efficient flow of transportation service. This position also supports and promotes the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the Human Services Department and performs in a manner consistent with the HSD Professional Standards and "Commitment to my Co‑Workers."
35% Answer phone calls in a fast‑paced environment.
Accurately take requests for transportation Respond to questions from passengers, other agencies and the general public
25% Enter transportation data to coordinate bus routes to maximize vehicle resources.
Accurately enter data into VIA program or alternate program Using computer program, schedule bus trips Record and enter any changes in bus schedules that may occur throughout the day
25% Communication with bus drivers
Provide dispatch instructions and ensure all pick‑ups/drop offs are made Assist drivers in resolving problems Monitor location of buses to keep them on schedule Communicate to drivers any changes in schedules Communicate any emergency or unusual circumstances to supervisors
10% Perform basic clerical and bookkeeping functions.
Maintain supply of required forms Filing Record and report any client billing needs
5% Perform other duties, as assigned.
Ability to multi‑task (take multiple phone calls, dispatch radio instructions, read and interpret computer programming information) Proficient use of Microsoft Office Professional Products Ability to locate addresses within Rock County Multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment (collect information from callers on multiple phone lines, communicate with drivers via two‑way radio, dispatch vehicles) React quickly to unforeseen situations and stressful conditions Possess excellent telephone skills Possess excellent communication skills Ability to maintain client confidentiality Ability to use copy machine, general office equipment
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED Position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules and regulations. Testing negative on required tests is a condition of employment.
Physical Elements Ability to sit, stand, etc. for long periods of time Mostly indoor office work
Equipment use Ability to use all office supplies
Working conditions Mostly indoor office work
