Assistant Professor of Biology - Immunology (tenure-track) The Department of Biology at Colby College is seeking an immunologist to fill an open, tenure‑track position at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2026. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences with emphasis in molecular, cellular or developmental biology, genetics or biochemistry. We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated expertise in immunology and a research program that addresses questions of fundamental immunology or biomedical applications.

Teaching Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach 4.5 courses per year, including BI225 Immunology (lab), BI325 Advanced Immunology (no lab), a course in the candidate’s area of expertise, and a rotation in our introductory course BI163 The Cellular Basis of Life. We especially value teaching experience and commitment to undergraduate education.

Research Expectations The successful candidate is expected to establish an active research program that includes supervision and mentoring of undergraduates. Our facilities can support invertebrate and fish models and cell culture, but not mammals. Active affiliations with the Jackson Laboratory, Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, and Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences provide opportunities for collaborative research. An attractive startup package is available, and a candidate may be eligible for a Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professorship, which includes dedicated annual research funds and salaries for undergraduate research assistants https://hluce.org/our-grants/.

Application Requirements Please submit a cover letter (max 2 pages), a curriculum vitae that includes contact information for three referees, and graduate transcripts. Candidates should also submit a statement describing research interests and plans appropriate for an undergraduate‑only institution (max 3 pages), and a statement describing teaching philosophy, teaching experience, and practices in inclusive pedagogy (max 3 pages). All materials should be submitted to Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/173466. Candidates may optionally include a paragraph (may go over 2‑page limit) describing how the COVID‑19 pandemic has affected their career trajectory. Review of applications will begin September 21, 2025, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.
