Position Summary:
Chowan University invites applications for a full-time, in-person, 9‑month faculty appointment in the Department of Criminal Justice. The position may be filled at the rank of
Assistant Professor
(tenure‑track) or
Instructor
(non‑tenure track), depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, student advising, and program development, and will contribute to a collaborative and student‑centered learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice and related areas.
Advise and mentor Criminal Justice majors and other students.
Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into the curriculum.
Contribute to curriculum development and assessment efforts.
Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen and grow academic programs.
Maintain excellence in classroom instruction and student engagement.
Participate in departmental, university, and professional service.
Support the mission and values of a Christian university.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and academic advising.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective time management with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
Ability to function well in a fast‑paced and occasionally high‑pressure environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Willingness to collaborate with faculty and staff.
Commitment to student success and the mission of a Christian university.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required.
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice preferred.
University‑level teaching experience preferred.
