Unit Secretary – ValleyCare Health System
By working under the direction of a Charge Nurse, the Unit Secretary is a member of the health care team who assists in the coordination of total patient care. This position is the focal point for communication and flow of the nursing unit. The Unit Secretary performs various patient care activities and related non‑professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the patient. The role provides continuous cardiac monitoring as a trained observer at the nurses station, maintains a safe and clean environment to facilitate the workflow of all care providers, and applies the VHS Values to the performance of every job duty. Responsibilities
Coordinate patient care activities and non‑professional services.
Serve as the primary communication hub for the nursing unit.
Provide continuous cardiac monitoring at the nurses station.
Maintain a safe, clean and organized environment for staff workflow.
Apply VHS Values to all job duties.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, phone and email etiquette.
Ability to multitask efficiently.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Basic computer skills; detail oriented.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
CPR training required.
Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing legibly, spelling correctly, basic mathematics and understanding of the English language.
Completion of a course in basic EKG interpretation.
Unit Secretary experience desirable.
Compensation Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $28.84 – $37.08 per hour. The final salary will be set based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
