Production Supervisor Prosser at Milne Fruit
Base pay range $80,000 – $90,000 per year
Job Description The Production Supervisor at Milne Fruit Products engages with smart, hard‑working people to make fruit and vegetable juices of the highest quality. In a typical day, the Supervisor will demonstrate his/her ability to lead a team, coach employees, teach skills, and direct work in a manner that supports and extends our company culture of integrity, safety, and excellence.
These positions are physically demanding and will include dumping fruit, knocking down wooden fruit crates, lifting 45‑pound drums on and off a truck, sweeping, shoveling, and hosing down work areas. On‑the‑job training is provided over time for forklift certification and equipment operator positions.
We are especially interested in talking to candidates with aseptic packaging experience in either a low‑acid or high‑acid environment. This position will work in coordination with the current Production Supervisors and will alternate day and swing shifts with some graveyard hours. The Successful Candidate Will Have
Industrial ingredient experience and a technical knowledge of production, which may include fruit juice concentrate and puree manufacture; vegetable juice concentrate and/or puree manufacture; other food production in a fluid plant, such as milk; other food processing experience in fresh, frozen, and/or dried products will be considered
Demonstrated supervisory skills with a strong emphasis on fostering a team approach
The ability to successfully manage employees in a positive environment
Responsibilities
Manages and monitors the activities of assigned freezer, blending, aseptic, vegetable, and production personnel
Maintains adequate finished good materials for packaging and blending operations and executes the assigned workload to personnel in the most efficient manner
Provides job orientation and training of newly hired or newly assigned employees (including temporary personnel), learning and enhancement of job skills, safety and quality awareness, and ensures knowledge of plant and department policies and procedures
Completes 60- and 100‑day evaluations with probationary employees
Mentors and coaches probationary employees to improve performance and employee engagement
Makes recommendations to retain or dismiss employees
Assists the EHS Supervisor monitor the overall safety and security posture of the facility, providing correctional measures and periodic safety training to individual employees or employee groups
Conducts thorough and comprehensive accident investigations when the EHS Supervisor is not available
Coordinates communication between departments and operators and facilitates information transfer at daily leader/shift change meetings
Freely initiates sharing information with other Production Supervisors, QA, and Maintenance to ensure smooth operations
Documents production thoroughly following all established procedures and creates detailed shift notes
Develops strong interpersonal communication with production staff to facilitate bi‑lateral information exchange
Directs the activities for Aseptic processing and blending on a rotational basis, reviews and approves batch blends, and reviews processing reports
Provides guidance, mentorship, and training to Aseptic operators
Ensures quality batch production adhering to customer specifications and coordinates with QA, Scheduling, Maintenance, and Production to ensure Aseptic parameters are met for all runs
Performs other duties as assigned and directed
Qualifications
BS/BA from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Food Science, Science, Bacteriology, or closely related field; experience may be substituted for a degree on a year‑for‑year basis
3-10 years of experience in production and increasingly responsible supervisory positions
Production supervisor experience is required
Sound knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of business administration (including personnel practices, employment laws, and fiscal management practices) and the appropriate methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of circumstances
Technical knowledge of fruit/vegetable ingredient product production and knowledge of fluid flow in a juice/puree production facility
Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of supervision and training
PC‑based computing experience (word processing/Word, spreadsheet/Excel, email/Outlook)
Communication and interpersonal skills to interact well with and maintain positive relationships with others
Professional writing skills to compose memos, letters, and other business correspondence observing all rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; able to compute rate, ratio, and percent
Able to work in a fast‑paced environment managing multiple deadlines and unscheduled interruptions
Able to manage details and comprehend the full scope of duties
