The Automation Industrial Engineer will report to the Client‑approved location: Moncks Corner, SC.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities I. Process Improvement & Project Leadership (Black Belt Focus)

Identify, define, prioritize, and execute large‑scale, complex continuous improvement projects using the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) or DMADV (Design, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) methodologies.

Collaborate with operational SMEs and existing Process Engineers to define and document “future state” standardized workflows.

Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to simplify, error‑proof (poka‑yoke), and standardize processes before automation is considered.

Apply advanced statistical techniques, including Design of Experiments (DOE), regression analysis, and Statistical Process Control (SPC), to analyze process variation and determine root causes. Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., Minitab, R, Python) is required.

Apply rigorous industrial engineering and data analysis methods to all mapped processes.

Identify and quantify bottlenecks, sources of waste (Muda), manual toil, ergonomic risks, and quality/SLA variance.

Analyze opportunities for automation using robotics (e.g., robotic arms, AGVs/AMRs) and other mechatronic solutions.

Responsible for delivering quantifiable results, including financial savings, cycle time reduction, quality improvement (defect reduction), and customer‑satisfaction enhancement.

Develop and execute change‑management plans to ensure successful and sustained implementation of new processes and controls.

II. Industrial Engineering & Optimization

Design, develop, and implement optimized production and operational systems, including facility layouts, work‑cell design, and material‑flow analysis.

Conduct time studies, method analysis, and capacity planning to establish engineered standards, balance production lines, and maximize resource utilization (labor, equipment, and space).

Evaluate processes and work environments for ergonomic risks and implement solutions to improve worker safety and productivity.

Utilize simulation and modeling tools to evaluate proposed process changes and predict their impact before physical implementation.

III. Business Acumen

Ability to translate operational improvements into financial impact (ROI, cost‑benefit analysis).

Experience in network optimization, global supply‑chain design, and capital investment planning.

Capability to influence executive decisions through data‑driven insights and scenario modeling.

IV. Leadership Without Direct Reports

Thought Leadership – Serve as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for global operations strategy. Mentor and coach other engineers informally; lead cross‑functional initiatives.

Stakeholder Management – Partner with senior leaders across Operations, Finance, and Technology. Drive alignment on strategic projects without formal authority.

V. Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; Masters preferred.

Six Sigma Black Belt certification from a recognized and reputable institution.

Deep understanding of Six Sigma philosophies, principles, and the DMAIC model.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Process Improvement, or a similar role, with at least 5 years dedicated to leading Black Belt‑level projects.

Sufficient experience and background in accounting, PC skills, manufacturing, human resources management, inventory control, and strategic planning.

Demonstrated teamwork and team‑building skills in producing results by meeting organizational objectives. Capable of assessing and developing individual and team skills and capabilities. Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals. Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Involved with or lead a team in Lean process improvements/implementation preferred.

Expert‑level knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and tools.

Proficiency in statistical software.

Demonstrated experience with IE tools: Time and Motion Study, Process Mapping, Layout Design, Capacity Planning.

Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross‑functional teams without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in automation.

Knowledge of ISO standards or other quality management systems.
