Job Summary The Construction Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground non‑energized power lines, from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for electricity distribution. They read project blueprints, oversee production, manage the Line team, ensure crew safety, and collaborate with personnel from other departments.
Responsibilities
Obtain all necessary materials and ensure all permits and licenses are in place.
Oversee work related to each project, assuming full responsibility for quality and timeliness.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or the higher standard of the customer.
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections.
Disseminate safety briefings and ensure crew understanding.
Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members related to digging and placing product.
Perform switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following proper safety procedures.
Connect, disconnect, install, remove, move, and transfer electrical devices on customer facilities such as transformers, regulator switches, and capacitor banks.
Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
Drive, haul, or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completing work.
Train new hires and trainees in trade skills.
Call in utilities located at each project site.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.
2 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred
6 or more years of experience, including extensive experience supervising and training skilled labor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing, often in inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position is physically active with lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Clear vision is required at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
