Civil Engineer I – Fabrication Engineering Unit (Quality Assurance / Bureau of Engineering Review & Support) Position Overview
Under general supervision, perform responsible and difficult project management work, monitor off‑site inspection for acceptance and verification during the fabrication of structural steel and prestressed/precast concrete bridge components, oversee inspection agencies, review shop drawings, design drawings, weld procedure specifications, fabrication and repair procedures, evaluate non‑destructive testing procedures and results, and work with AWS Structural Steel and Bridge Welding Code, NYSSCM, NYSPCCM, ASME, and ASTM. Traveling to fabrication plants located in various parts of the U.S. and Canada may be required. Responsibilities
Monitor off‑site inspection for acceptance and verification during fabrication of structural steel and prestressed/precast concrete bridge components. Oversee inspection agencies during their inspection assignments. Review shop drawings, design drawings, weld procedure specifications, fabrication and repair procedures. Travel to fabrication plants as required. Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of full‑time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work. Valid New York State Professional Engineer license, maintained throughout employment. Master’s degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of experience. For placement in Assignment Levels II and III, at least one year in the last three years as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring additional expertise. Preferred Skills
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. 55‑a Program
