Finance & Ops Recruiter / Space Nerd / Dog Dad We're partnering with a well established, NYC-based real estate owner/operator that has grown into a vertically integrated group of companies with a long-standing reputation in development, construction, and management. The business is performing exceptionally well, has a deep project pipeline, and is now looking to add an Assistant Controller to support accounting operations across its affordable housing portfolio.

Reporting into the VP of Accounting, this hire will take ownership of monthly accounting close activities, oversee property-level reporting and revenue processes, and help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. It's a hands‑on role, managing one direct report, with a path toward stepping into the VP's role in the coming years.

This role will be 5 days per week in office for the first 90 days, before dropping to 4 days per week.

What you’ll be doing:

Lead monthly close and reporting activities across the affordable housing portfolio.

Oversee revenue accounting, subsidy tracking, and ledger reconciliations.

Support budgeting, cash flow, and variance reporting across properties.

Coordinate annual audit prep and tax submissions.

Identify and implement process improvements (particularly around revenue and systems).

Act as a right hand to the VP of Accounting with an eye toward succession planning.

What we’re looking for:

7–10 years’ experience in property management accounting.

Deep understanding of affordable housing programs required.

Strong Excel skills and comfort with ledger activity, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Executive presence, strong communication, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

CPA preferred but not required.
