A well‑established Queens‑based property management company is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Controller to join their accounting leadership team. This position plays a key role in overseeing financial operations across a portfolio of affordable housing properties, with responsibilities spanning budgeting, month‑end close, audits, and strategic process improvements. The ideal candidate will bring strong affordable housing accounting expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and a collaborative leadership style. Key Responsibilities: Oversee day‑to‑day accounting functions and month‑end close processes across multiple affordable housing properties. Coordinate with leasing and property managers to ensure accuracy in tenant ledgers, subsidy tracking, and split‑ledger reconciliations. Review and analyze general ledger activities, prepare journal entries, and complete bank reconciliations. Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports for internal and external stakeholders. Lead and support budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with property and organizational goals. Prepare and review variance analyses, cash flow reports, and other key financial metrics. Support annual audits, tax filings, and compliance with applicable affordable housing regulatory requirements. Implement and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and integrity of financial data. Partner cross‑functionally on strategic initiatives, including technology integration and process improvement related to revenue management and reporting. Proactively identify and resolve accounting issues to ensure transactions are properly recorded and financial reporting remains accurate. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred. 7–10 years of accounting experience within the property management or real estate industry, with a strong focus on affordable housing programs. In‑depth understanding of HUD, LIHTC, and other affordable housing regulations. Proficiency in Yardi and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to lead, prioritize, and execute in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. Strong problem‑solving mindset with a commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement. Seniority level
